A Tesla engineer at the company’s Giga Texas factory near Austin, United States, was reportedly attacked by an assembly robot in 2021.

In a report by DailyMail on Tuesday, witnesses said the robot, designed to handle car parts, pinned the engineer against the floor and clawed at him, leaving a trail of blood.

Tesla is owned by billionaire, Elon Musk.

In the accident report filed with local authorities, the robot was said to have left the engineer with an “open wound” on his left hand.

The engineer was able to break free after a colleague pressed the emergency stop button, and reportedly tumbled down a scrap metal chute after being released.

Despite the severity of the attack, Tesla reportedly claimed the engineer’s injuries did not require time off work for recovery.

The incident had raised concerns about existing crises in workplace safety at Tesla, particularly at the Giga Texas plant.

Giga Texas has faced scrutiny over its safety record, with data showing a higher rate of injuries compared to other major US auto factories.

In cases of severe injuries, the ratio at Giga Texas was one in every 26 workers, compared to one in 38 at other factories.

The robot attack incident has further fuelled concerns about Tesla’s safety practices and its handling of workplace accidents.

Tesla, according to the report, declined to comment on the situation.
