The house of representatives has urged the federal government to secure the release of Bulus Yakura, a pastor of Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN).
Yakura was kidnapped by Boko Haram in Borno state on December 24, 2020.
He was said to have been abducted when the insurgents attacked Pemi village, Chibok, killing at least seven persons.
The insurgents, in two separate videos, showed the pastor calling on President Muhammadu Buhari, Babagana Zulum, governor of the state, and Christian leaders to secure his release.

In one of the videos, the pastor said he had been given a one-week ultimatum.
During Tuesday’s plenary, Ahmadu Jaha, a lawmaker representing Damboa/Gwoza/Chibok federal constituency, called on relevant security authorities to ensure the release of Yakuru, as the March 4 deadline stipulated by the insurgents draws close.
The house called on the federal government to secure the release of the cleric.

This is not the first time insurgents will kidnap a cleric. In January 2020, Lawan Andimi, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), in Michika LGA of Adamawa was kidnapped and killed by the insurgents.
