Reps panel: Tertiary institutions have over N500bn in unclaimed TETFund grants

The house of representatives says Nigeria’s tertiary institutions have over N500 billion in unclaimed TETFund grants.

Miriam Onuoha, the chairperson of the reps committee on the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), was in Kaduna on Thursday.

She spoke of TETFund intervention grants while leading a delegation on a courtesy visit to the government house in the state’s capital.

Onuoha raised concern that over N500 billion in unclaimed funds were still in the custody of the central bank.

She said three institutions in Kaduna state have a combined N1.3 billion in unclaimed TEFund grants.

The chairperson said TETFund intervention goes to three major state-owned tertiary institutions in Kaduna.

She listed them as the Kaduna State University, the Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic in Zaria, and the College of Education in Gidan Waya.

Onuoha said Kaduna State University has N547 million unclaimed funds.

Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic has unclaimed funds of N724 million and the College of Education in Gidan Waya has N30 million.

Onuoha said the committee will engage with tertiary institutions to address challenges in accessing crucial intervention funds.

She said stringent conditions have prevented many institutions from accessing these funds.

She also said the committee would ensure proper account of all the monies that had been disbursed.
