The house of representatives committee on aviation technology says it will ensure that the nation’s aviation sector meets the highest safety standards.
Speaking at an interactive session with the management of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (FCAT) and stakeholders in the industry, on Thursday in Abuja, Thomas Ereyitomi, chairman of the committee, warned against lapses that could endanger safety.
The lawmaker said aviation technology has a “unique” place in the nation’s development.
“In a nation as vast and diverse as Nigeria, aviation becomes the lifeblood that unites us, bridging gaps, fostering trade, and enabling the exchange of knowledge and culture,” he said.

The committee chairman said to remain competitive on the global stage, Nigeria’s aviation sector must embrace cutting-edge technology, enhance infrastructure, and nurture human capital.
He said the committee is a “bridge” between policy-making and progress and is committed to creating an enabling environment for the aviation industry to thrive.
“Our mandate includes fostering research, innovation, and development in all spheres of the aviation industry,” he said.

Ereyitomi said the committee is open to partnerships that will lead to innovative solutions in the industry.
“Our doors are open to partnerships that can revolutionize our aviation sector,” the legislator said.
“Whether it’s enhancing airport infrastructure, optimizing air traffic management or advancing aviation safety protocols, we are eager to engage with you.”

The lawmaker said safety remains paramount in aviation which is why the committee is committed to working with stakeholders to ensure that the nation’s airports, airlines, and aviation technologies “meet the highest international safety standards”.
“Let us explore eco-friendly aviation technologies and practices that reduce our carbon footprint, ensuring a greener future for our industry,” he said.
