Restructuring: FG won’t succumb to threats of breakup, says Garba Shehu

Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, says the federal government will not succumb to threats that the “nation will break up”.

In a statement on Friday, Shehu said President Muhammadu Buhari cannot be put under pressure to take decisions that will be against Nigerians.

He, however, added that the government is ready to work with stakeholders in finding solutions to the structural challenges of the country.

“The Presidency responds to the recurring threats to the corporate existence of the country with factions giving specific timelines for the President to do one thing or another or else, in their language, ‘the nation will break up’,” the statement read.

“This is to warn that such unpatriotic outbursts are both unhelpful and unwarranted as this government will not succumb to threats and take any decision out of pressure at a time when the nation’s full attention is needed to deal with the security challenges facing it at a time of the Covid-19 health crisis.

?Repeat: this administration will not take any decision against the interests of 200 million Nigerians, who are the President’s first responsibility under the constitution, out of fear or threats especially in this hour of a health crisis.

“The President as an elected leader under this constitution will continue to work with patriotic Nigerians, through and in line with the Parliamentary processes to finding solutions to structural and other impediments to the growth and wellbeing of the nation and its people.”

The Federal Government has shown commitment to security of the country. She must improve in all other spheres of human developmental endeavours by first ending aristocratic style of leadership. There is too much disdain for Nigerian graduates who are employees of government but yet are never considered for political appointments. Ex-governors who should have been chairmen of companies some of who, if not all, earn millions of naira in addition to other allowances contrary to the law are appointed to ministerial levels. Are they pensioners; Legitimate pensioners who are entitled to contract job as in truely developing countries and advanced countries hardly receive monthly stipend for more than two to three years and the gratuity may not be paid five years latter; only youths empowerment programmes is in place but this should cover other demographic strata.
These problems need intervention of the Federal government who should insist that state governors comply with legitimate laws.
The nation of Nigeria must adopt mixed-economy approach; it is dangerous to continue to wait for private sector whose only motive is profit. No establishment is put in place for a loss. Those who run government enterprises must be brought to justice if they undermine the economy.

Immunity must not cover political heads who are gun-runners, kill political opponents, and kill those who exposes corruption in governess etc.
Create special intelligence unit to be located every where who are very literate and educated to be able to get information, analyze, and give correct information that may replace fake news immediately as they come.
