Returning Ike Uche ‘happy but not under pressure’

Super Eagles striker Ike Uche has expressed delight at his return to the team after a lengthy absence dating back to the final of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) against Burkina Faso.

The Villarreal forward fell out with coach Stephen Keshi and the duo even had a public spat on the issue.

But when the coach was reinstated to his post earlier this month, he held out the olive branch to Uche and recalled him to the senior national team.

And now the striker is glad to be back but he says he is not under pressure to deliver in Saturday’s must-win clash with Congo in Pointe-Noire.

“I am happy to be back,” Uche said.

“It’s always an honour to play for my country and I am ready to give my best.

“I am not under any pressure to deliver, but the team spirit is high and as a team we would together do our best to qualify our country. We have a very important game ahead of us and I am here to help my country qualify.”
