Rigobert Song, for captain of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, is fighting for his life after being rushed to hospital in Yaounde.
The 40-year-old is suffering from a brain aneurysm and is now in critical condition, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Song, who earned 137 caps for Cameroon and also played for Liverpool and West Ham, has been receiving get-well-soon wishes from his former clubs and colleagues.
Samuel Eto’o, Patrick Mboma, Jamie Carragher, Robbie Fowler and teammates of Song with Cameroon’s national side have also sent messages of well wishes his way, via their Twitter handles.
