The National Examination Council (NECO) has released results for the 2024 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE).
The 2024 NCEE was conducted across Nigeria, the Benin Republic, and Togo on June 1.
At a conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Yusuf Sununu, minister of state for education, spoke on the performance of those who sat for the exam.
NAN reports that he said 71,291 candidates registered, with 66,931 sitting for the exam and 4,360 reported absent.
Sununu stated that one candidate scored the highest mark of 203 in the exam, out of the maximum obtainable score of 210.
He said 52 candidates were involved in examination malpractice, with two from Lagos and the remaining 50 from Rivers state.
The NCEE is administered to pupils in their sixth and final year of primary education.
It is intended to select qualified candidates for admission into unity colleges.
Unity colleges, also called federal government colleges (FGCs), are secondary schools established and run by the federal government.
Sununu said the criteria for admission into these colleges are 60 percent merit, 30 percent equality of state, and 10 percent exigency.
He asked the senior secondary education department in his ministry to ensure a timely and fair admission process.
“Federal unity colleges have become the first port of call for most parents in the country,” he said.
“I want to assure all Nigerian parents that the government will continue to do its best to improve infrastructural development, feeding, and teacher quality for effective teaching and learning in our colleges.”
