The Rivers state house of assembly on Monday screened and confirmed 22 nominees as chairmen of caretaker committees of the state local government areas.
Ikunye Ibani, speaker of the assembly, told the members of the committees to see their appointment as an avenue for service to the people.
He called on them to always be their brothers’ keepers by ensuring that they put smiles on the faces of the people at the grassroots.
The speaker said there was no permanent position, advising them to avoid haughtiness.

Ibani directed the clerk of the assembly to convey the approval of the nominees to Nyesom Wike, governor of the state.
Martins Amaewhule, leader of the house, called on the nominees to carry every member of their areas along and ensure that the people were adequately taken care of.
Abinye Pepple, the lawmaker representing Bonny constituency, urged them to ensure good governance in their various councils.

One of the newly confirmed chairmen, Soboma Jackreece, pledged to tackle insecurity in his area and also empower his people.
On his part, Bright Amaewhule, another chairman, pledged to curb insecurity in his area also “carry everybody along in a bid to make them feel the impact of his administration”.
