Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Rivers in the national assembly have asked the state lawmakers who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to vacate their seats.
On Monday, the lawmakers who are said to be loyal to Nyesom Wike, the minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), left the PDP, citing “division within the party as the reason for exiting to APC”.
The lawmakers, in a rally on Friday in Port Harcourt, Rivers state capital, with their constituents and groups, also pledged support for Siminialaye Fubara, the governor, amidst the various political crises plaguing the state.
Speaking on the matter, Dagomie Abiante, a lawmaker representing Andoni/Opobo-Nkoro federal constituency of Rivers, said President Bola Tinubu should intensify the resolution of the ongoing political crisis in the state.

“I want to appreciate President Bola Tinubu for making the world understand that the only ingredient that can stop violence in any country is good governance, his stand as chairman of the heads of West African states,” he said.
“We, therefore, implore him to propagate the same message in this country.
“Some persons that we elected had vacated their seats, therefore as respected persons who are not supposed to breach the law, they should vacate the official quarters allocated to them since they have ceased to be members of the house.

“They should also stop being contemptuous of the court while their constituencies get prepared to choose fresh representatives.”
Boma Good-Head, member representing the Akuku/Toru federal constituency, said the president should “call the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to order”.
