Prime Gold Fertiliser and Chemical Company, an indigenous firm based in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, is set to establish a fertilizer plant in Sokoto state.
Imam Imam, spokesman of Aminu Tambuwal, governor of the state, confirmed this in a statement, saying the governor had a meeting with the management team of the company, led by Felix Okonti, the chairman/CEO of Prime Gold.
Tambuwal was said to have told Prime Gold that it was making a wise investment move, saying Sokoto has comparative advantage with other states in terms of peace, abundant skilled and unskilled labour, hospitable environment and friendly populace.
“Importantly, there’s a huge market for the product in Sokoto and surrounding areas including Niger Repubic,” Imam quoted him as saying.

In his remarks, Okonti said with large deposit of primary natural substances derived from nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, Sokoto has enough deposit of raw materials needed for making fertilizer.
He said when completed, the first phase of the plant will produce 100,000 metric tones of fertilizer and will provide direct job opportunities to 5000 persons in addition to boosting the socio-economic activities of the state.
