The Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RWMA) has dismissed all its contractors and service providers.
Felix Obuah, who was appointed as the sole administrator of RWMA by Nyesom Wike, governor of the state, announced this in a statement issued on Sunday.
Obuah directed those who are still interested in working with the agency to send in fresh applications, attributing the reorganisation to the unimpressive performance of the relieved contractors.
“Not satisfied with the performance of some service providers, the sole administrator of Rivers State Waste Management Agency, Bro Felix Obuah has directed all service providers currently doing business with the agency to reapply if they intend to continue with their services, with effect from July 1, 2015,” read the statement issued by Jerry Needam, Obuah’s spokesman.

“Intending competent service providers or contractors interested in doing business with the Rivers State Waste Management Agency are also hereby enjoined to apply.”
Earlier in the month, Wike summoned the contractors to government house, Port Harcourt, for a meeting to discuss the poor state of sanitation in the state capital.
They told the governor that the past administration was owing them to the tune of N1.8 Billion and that they had been surviving through facilities from the bank.

Consequently, Wike appointed Obuah, the current chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state and directed that the agency gets rid of the filth in the city within 72 hours.
