The Rivers state government has signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with SIX-EV Limited, an e-mobility company, to introduce electric three-wheelers and electric buses.
The project, led by Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers, aims to address the transportation needs of the residents by providing a reliable and eco-friendly option.
The partnership seeks to invest in zero-emission vehicles that will reduce the state’s dependence on fossil fuels.
Franklin Omene, a board member of SIX-EV, said the project is in alignment with Rivers state’s strategic goals for sustainable development and enhanced public health.

He noted that the vehicles are equipped with advanced battery technology and charging infrastructure.
He added that the vehicles will provide a cost-effective and clean alternative to traditional fossil fuel-based transport.

“This project is a significant step toward achieving Governor Fubara’s vision for an accessible, sustainable public transportation system that directly benefits the people,” he said.
“By providing affordable, eco-friendly transport options, we are not only supporting local mobility but also contributing to a healthier, more sustainable environment for Rivers state.”
Also speaking, Fubara said the partnership with SIX-EV reflects “our dedication to reducing transportation costs for our citizens”.
He said the introduction of electric vehicles will foster economic growth by generating jobs in vehicle maintenance, charging station management, and transportation operations, while also reducing maintenance and fuel costs for operators.
