The Rivers government has denied reports of Siminalayi Fubara, governor of the state, sacking some of his aides and all LGA chairpersons.

The state government said there will be proper communication regarding the sack of some officials by the governor should it happen.

On Monday, there were reports on social media that Fubara had sacked some of his aides and all LGA chairpersons amid the political crisis in the state.

Over the past few days, there have been speculations of a rift between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, the immediate past governor of the state and current minister of the federal capital territory (FCT).

Amid the speculation, the Rivers house of assembly commenced impeachment proceedings against Fubara.

Prior to this, a section of the state assembly complex was engulfed by fire on Sunday.

Reacting to the development, Fubara said he has not committed any offence to warrant his impeachment, adding that he is ready to die over the political situation in the state.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Warisenibo Johnson, Rivers commissioner of information, said Fubara is a technocrat who does things according to laid down rules and with the fear of God.

“We, therefore, ask Rivers people and the general public to jettison such unconfirmed reports as the public will be properly informed of who may have been removed by His Excellency at the appropriate time,” the commissioner said.

“It is pertinent to note that as the commissioner for information and communication, I shall keep the public updated of events in due course.”
