The directive of Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state, that civil servants must obtain bank verification number (BVN) validation before getting salaries has assisted the government in saving N1 billion.
Simeon Nwakaudu, special assistant to the governor on electronic media, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
Nwakaudu said a comprehensive biometric confirmation of all civil servants would be done as a further measure of blocking all other existing revenue leakages in the system.
He said the resolution was reached at the state executive council meeting held at the government house in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

Addressing journalists at the end of the meeting, Austin Tam-George, commissioner for information, said the verification would not only enhance the financial management of the state but also help to confirm the actual population of civil servants.
