Robbers attack Giwa FC

Giwa FC players were attacked on Monday on their way to Umuahia to honour a Glo Premier League Week 21 match against Abia Warriors.

The robbery incident occurred at 9th Mile around Enugu about 10:35 pm.

Sammy Adesoji, one of the officials of the team, said some of the players in the bus lost their mobile phones and cash to the hoodlums.

“Our players were attacked by armed robbers at 9th mile. We thank God no life was lost,” Adesoji told AfricanFootball.com.

“They were ahead of us. They continued the journey with escort given to them by soldiers on the road after they explained what happened to them.”

Giwa FC players and officials have since arrived in Umuahia ahead of Wednesday’s match against Abia Warriors.

It is the second time this season that a Glo Premier League club has been attacked by gunmen.

In March, on the eve of the commencement of the season, Kano Pillars were robbed along Abaji-Lokoja road in an incident that left several players with injuries from gunshot wounds.
