Armed robbers attacked a Hausa trader at the Oke-Sokori axis of Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, on Friday.

The robbers reportedly carted away a substantial amount of foreign currency loaded in two ‘Ghana must go’ bags.

Narrating the incident, the victim said he had earlier approached a bank at Oke-Ilewo to deposit the money but was turned back because the bank had closed.

He said it was on his way home that he was attacked.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said operatives of the command were already trailing the criminals.

“It is quite unfortunate that the suspects escaped from the scene before our operatives arrived. But I want to assure you that we will definitely get them and bring them to justice,” Oyeyemi said.

“The command immediately, upon receipt of information about the incident, sent a signal across the state to ensure that the suspects are tracked down. All our technical units have been activated and for sure, we will get them.

“I want to use this medium to assure the good people of Ogun state not to panic as there is no course for alarm. You should remain calm, go about your normal and routine businesses because our men will surely track down the suspects.”

On April 13, a trader was killed during an attack by a gang of armed robbers in the Tarmac phone market in Abeokuta.

One of the eight robbers was arrested while others fled the scene after a gun battle with the police.

On May 7, the police command said it had arrested three suspected members of the gang.
