‘Robbers kill three persons’ in Jigawa

The Jigawa police command says three persons have been killed by men suspected to be robbers in Birninkudu LGA of the state.

In a statement on Wednesday, Lawan Shiisu, the command’s public relations officer, said the suspects were first seen on a motorcycle approaching the village, at about 10:15 pm.

Shiisu said the robbers allegedly fired several shots at an oncoming vehicle conveying four passengers, which killed Hassan Garba, the driver, and two passengers identified as Garba Maiwake and Shehu Saidu.

The spokesperson noted that the corpses had been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) morgue in Birninkudu, adding that the command has intensified patrol to arrest the fleeing suspects.

“Yesterday (Tuesday); at about 8:00 pm, information received from Iggi village that three gunmen were sighted on one motorcycle at Iyayi area of Bauchi state, approaching Iggi village of Birninkudu LGA through Babuwawa village,” Shiisu said.

“On receipt of the information, patrol team was mobilised to the area and all security stakeholders alerted, especially the vigilante.

“At about 10:15 pm., a distress call received from Warwade axis of Birninkudu that same gunmen had snatched a motorcycle from an unknown person.”

NAN reports that Garba, who drove the car that was shot at by the robbers, recently retired from the Jigawa state civil service; and that he was a former managing director of the Jigawa housing authority.
