Robbery attacks: UI bans male visitors from female halls

The management of the University of Ibadan has issued a directive banning male visitors from entering three female halls of residence.

Idowu Olayinka, UI vice-chancellor, said the decision was taken at a meeting of the university security committee in a bid to put an end to the robbery incidents recorded on campus.

The affected halls are Queen Elizabeth Hall, Queen Idia Hall and Obafemi Awolowo Hall (AWO).

The development follows robbery attacks on AWO hall and the female block of Abubakar Abdulsalam postgraduate hall of residence in less than a month.

“In view of recent security situation on the Campus male visitors are henceforth prohibited from entering the above listed Female Halls of Residence,” the statement read.

“The Residents of the aforementioned Halls can only receive their male visitors outside the Hall. Female visitors should be screened at the Porters’ Lodge.

“Moreover, all male visitors are expected to leave the precincts of the female Halls by 8:30 pm. Any one found loitering will be regarded as a suspect.”

Olayinka had said that the university was susceptible to robbery attacks which he blamed on the porous entry and exit points of the institution.
