Rohr: We felt at home in Uyo, the people are wonderful

Gernot Rohr, Super Eagles technical adviser, says he will like to make the Uyo stadium in Akwa Ibom state, a regular base for his team.

In an interview with TheCable, Rohr rated the stadium among the best in the country, and praised the people for cheering the Eagles to victory in Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Algeria.

“The stadium is beautiful and I am proud of it. It was built by Julius Berger, so, I feel at home,” he said.

“You have the feeling that you are home wherever you are playing there. Well, I only know Uyo for the moment, so, I cannot compare. But I have been told about Port Harcourt, Abuja and Lagos.

“If you look at Uyo now, we have two pitches. The training pitch and the main pitch. They are good pitches. We felt good there.

“The crowd was wonderful. The people came out en mass to support the team. You could see the way the crowd was when we were warming up. You saw how happy the people were.

“When Leon Balogun was tackling, they loved it. Uyo people understand football.”

Rohr also pointed out that aside from the stadium, the team also likes the city.

“We also have a beautiful hotel, which is like a house. It has a comfortable and wonderful ambiance,” he said.
