Mitt Romney, a Republican senator, has congratulated Joe Biden, president-elect of the US, and Kamala Harris, his running mate, over their victory in the 2020 elections.
Biden emerged US President-elect after polling over 270 electoral votes to defeat incumbent President Donald Trump.
In a tweet on Saturday, Romney, senator representing Utah, congratulated the democratic party candidate and his running mate, describing them as people of good will and admirable character.
“Ann and I extend our congratulations to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. We know both of them as people of good will and admirable character. We pray that God may bless them in the days and years ahead,” the tweet read.

Romney lost to Obama in 2012 and conceded the election unlike Trump, candidate of the Republican Party in 2020, who has rejected Biden’s victory.
In a statement, he alleged that the election was fraudulent, adding that his campaign team will initiate legal actions to challenge the results.
“The simple fact is this election is far from over. Joe Biden has not been certified as the winner of any states, let alone any of the highly contested states headed for mandatory recounts, or states where our campaign has valid and legitimate legal challenges that could determine the ultimate victor,” the statement read.
“In Pennsylvania, for example, our legal observers were not permitted meaningful access to watch the counting process. Legal votes decide who is president, not the news media.

“Beginning Monday, our campaign will start prosecuting our case in court to ensure election laws are fully upheld and the rightful winner is seated. The American People are entitled to an honest election: that means counting all legal ballots, and not counting any illegal ballots.”
