On a day Cristiano Ronaldo made the headlines for throwing a reporter’s microphone into the lake, the Portuguese striker restored confidence to his team by scoring a brace in the match against Hungary.
He also made history in the game, which ended in a 3-3 draw, by becoming the first-ever player to score consistently in four European Championships.
Hungary took the lead against Portugal, with Balazs Dzsudzsak also notching twice. But Fernando Santos’ side responded every time, as three goals were scored in the first 10 minutes of the second half.
It wasn’t quite the momentous result Ronaldo and Portugal would have liked to kick start their campaign, but the point was enough to send them into the next round of the competition despite failing to win a single match.
