Rotary Club of Lagos celebrates 60th anniversary in grand style

The Rotary Club of Lagos, a member of Rotary International District 9110 which also covers Ogun state, recently celebrated its 60th anniversary in grand style.

The ceremony which took place at Oriental Hotel, Lagos, was attended by Rotary leaders including past district governors and Remi Bello, the incoming district governor.

According to Ehi Braimah, chairman of the district public image committee, the event also featured the launch of a coffee table book which showcases the rich heritage of the club.

Tunji Funso, former district president of the club and guest speaker at the ceremony, noted that Rotarians must not stop doing good in the world.

He also said although Nigeria has managed to eradicate polio, there is a need for vigilance to prevent a re-emergence of the virus.

Bola Oyebade, the district governor, and Dare Adeyeri, the 60th president of the club, also gave their remarks at the event.

In his remarks, Oyebade noted that the Rotary Club of Lagos is the oldest in the district with 26 charter members in 1961.

He praised members of the club for their steadfastness and commitment to the ideals of Rotary.

Meanwhile, Dare Adeyeri, the 60th president of the club, expressed immense joy for the opportunity to serve humanity. He said the club has executed over 40 projects at over N50m since July 2020.

Awards of different categories, such as the ambassadors awards for members of the club, were also given at the ceremony.

Kunle Ogunbayo, past president of the club, and Hairat Balogun were recipients in the distinguished awards category.

Phillip Asiodu, Felix Ohiwerei, Aliko Dangote, Otunba Balogun, Onikepo Akande, and Ndidi Nwuneli were given honorary awards for their services to humanity.

Some of the notable personalities present at the event are Bisi Onasanya, former CEO, First Bank Nigeria Limited, and his wife, Helen; Ladi Balogun, group chief executive, FCMB Group Plc, and Phillip Asiodu, former petroleum minister.
