Rotary Foundation celebrates 120 years, seeks collaboration to empower communities

Michael Olawale-Cole, a former commissioner in Lagos and founder of Colenson Group, has asked Nigerians to impact the world positively through selfless giving.

Olawale-Cole spoke on Sunday at the Rotary Foundation dinner & dance ceremony in Lagos to celebrate Rotary International’s 120th anniversary.

He described Rotary as a beacon of hope, kindness, and compassion, praising its global humanitarian efforts and highlighting how it has impacted the lives of many through impactful initiatives.

Olufemi Adenekan, district governor of Rotary International District 9112, expressed gratitude to donors while highlighting the foundation’s transformative humanitarian impact since its establishment in 1917.

Omotunde Olaleye, chairman of the event’s planning committee, implored guests to keep supporting Rotary’s key initiatives, including peace building, disease prevention, clean water access, maternal health, and education.

“Your contributions help us empower communities, foster global understanding, improve health outcomes, and create educational opportunities,” he said.

The event included entertainment, cultural performances, and networking opportunities, with a key highlight being the prestigious humanitarian awards honouring distinguished Nigerians for their philanthropy.

Awardees included Olawale-Cole, Temitope Enitan-Ogunwusi, Urum Kalu Eke, Anthony & Pharm. Silvia Onwuere, and Taiwo Afolabi, chairman of SIFAX group.

Others honoured included Seni Adetu, former Guinness Nigeria managing director (MD) and Algorithm Media chief executive officer (CEO); Maria Phillips; Basorun Peter Ogunbayo; Augustine Onwumere; and Michael Ikenga, CEO of ITStack Limited.
