Rotary International: We’ve committed $300m to polio eradication in Nigeria

Mark Maloney, trustee chairman of the Rotary Foundation and former president of the organisation, says over $300 million has been committed to fighting polio in Nigeria.

Maloney, who spoke in Lagos on Monday during his working visit to Nigeria, said the funds have significantly eradicated the spread of polio and reduced child mortality rates in the country.

He added that the organisation has also provided over $30 million in funding support for projects within Rotary’s areas of focus in the country.

The Rotary Foundation trustee chair noted that $2 million has been donated for the ‘Together for families in Nigeria’ project and the Rotary healthy communities challenge, aimed at strengthening health systems and combating diseases across the world.

Maloney added that Rotary has enjoyed a good relationship with the Nigerian government and thanked members for their immense contribution to the foundation and commitment to the organisation.

Ijeoma Okoro, the Rotary Foundation trustee, urged members of the charity organisation to continue working to deliver bigger and better projects.

Maloney’s visit to Lagos was rounded off with a dinner attended by rotarians, rotaractors, donors, and representatives of corporate organisations.
