Ryan Giggs, former Manchester United player, has been cleared of all domestic abuse charges.

According to BBC, the 49-year-old was acquitted after the charges were withdrawn by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) at a hearing at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday.

In 2021, the Welsh international was charged to court for “causing actual bodily harm” to Kate Greville, his ex-girlfriend, and Emma, her sister.

Last August, jurors failed to reach verdicts following more than 20 hours of deliberations after a four-week trial on the case.

Consequently, a retrial was scheduled to commence on July 31, 2023.

However, before the retrial, the prosecutors told the court that “there is no longer sufficient evidence” on the case.

Peter Wright, a prosecutor, said the complainants were no longer willing to give evidence in the retrial.

“We have determined there is no longer sufficient evidence available to proceed in respect of the controlling or coercive behaviour charge and that it is no longer in the public interest to prosecute the remaining assault charges,” a CPS spokesperson said.

In his ruling, Hilary Manley, the judge, declared that Giggs was not guilty on all three counts.

When the allegation surfaced in 2021, Giggs was dismissed from his role as the manager of the Wales national team.

Giggs spent 24 years at Man United and is one of British football’s most-decorated footballers.
