Sadio Mane, the Senegalese and Bayern Munich forward, has been ruled out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar due to injury.
Mane’s exclusion was announced in a tweet by Senegal’s football federation on Thursday.
The Senegalese international got injured on November 8, lasting only 20 minutes before getting substituted during Bayern Munich’s 6-1 win over Werder Bremen in a German Bundesliga encounter.
TheCable had reported that the 30-year-old was “likely” to miss some matches in the opening stages of the competition.

Further scans, however, revealed that the injury will require surgery, eliminating the slim chances of Mane featuring in the World Cup.
The player’s absence is a huge blow to Senegal’s chances in Qatar.
The Teranga Lions will be aiming to surpass their quarter-final feat at the 2002 edition in Korea and Japan.
