Sallah: NSCDC turns to sniffer dogs for help

As part of its efforts to ensure adequate security during Saturday’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed sniffer dogs to sniff out combustive chemicals and other dangerous compound substances used in the creation of bombs and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

NSDC spokesperson, Mr Emmanuel Okeh, said this in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday.

According to the statement, commandant-general of the NSCDC, Dr Ade Abolurin, directed all zonal and state commands to deploy personnel in strategic places for the Sallah celebration, with about 50,000 regular and volunteer personnel moving to strategic locations such as Eid praying grounds, federal highways and relaxation spots.

The corps also deployed specialised units such as the counter-terrorism unit, nuclear, biological chemical and radio-active squad and surveillance vehicles to strategic locations.

Abolurin advised Muslim faithful to see the period as an opportunity to pray for the unity of the country and to ask for forgiveness of sins in line with the teachings of Prophet Mohammed. He said the NSCDC was working with other security agencies to ensure a hitch-free celebration.

The NSCDC boss called on all stakeholders to cooperate with security forces to combat insecurity and every act of vandalism by providing timely information.

“I also want to advise criminal-minded individuals that always capitalise on festive periods to carry out their nefarious activities to desist from such acts or relocate from the country,” he said.
