The Nigerian army has announced the arrest of Mohammed Zauro, said to be a high profile Boko Haram member.

Sani Usman, spokesman of the army, disclosed this in a statement, saying Zauro was about fleeing Sambisa forest when he was arrested.

Usman said troops of Operation Lafia Dole with assistance of vigilantes on routine checks at Sabon Gari in Damboa local government area of Borno, identified and arrested the suspect.

“On Tuesday, August 2, at about 8:30 am., Preliminary investigation shows that the suspected terrorist kingpin was arrested as he was trying to flee to Birnin Kebbi, from Sambisa forest,” the statement read.

Troops were also said to have intercepted Lawal Aboi, another suspect, along Damboa-Bale road.

Aboi was said to be on his way to voluntarily surrender to the troops in Damboa because he was tired of fighting for no just cause.
