Guangzhou striker Aaron Samuel says he knew he was going to find the back of the net in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Congo in Pointe Noire.

The 20-year-old, a 70th-minute substitute for Emmanuel Emenike, curled in a shot in added time to secure all three points for the Super Eagles.

He expressed his delight afterwards.

“I knew I was going to score because I never doubted my qualities. I’m happy to score again,” Samuel told SL10.ng.

“The coach had a talk with me before I entered the pitch. He advised me to be focused and help the team defensively and offensively. He told me to be relaxed and do what I know how to do best.”

Samuel, who plays in the Chinese Super League, dedicated his second international goal to his mother and other well-wishers.

“I have dedicated this goal to my mother and to those who know me, who know what I can do, and backed me from the beginning,” he said.

With two goals in the bag, the ex-Sarpsborg 08 forward is Nigeria’s joint top scorer in the AFCON qualifiers alongside CSKA Moscow’s Ahmed Musa.
