Muhammadu Sanusi II, the former Emir of Kano, says states need to free themselves from federal dominance.

Sanusi said this on Saturday at the 7th edition of the Kaduna Economic and Investment Summit (Kadinvest 7.0), organised by the Kaduna Investment Promotion Agency (KADIPA).

Sanusi who is also the vice chairman of KADIPA said it’s high time the states stopped relying on the centre for sustenance, adding that the federal government is likely not to solve all problems.

He also urged states to build infrastructures and attract investors.

“Just assume that you’re not going to get help from the centre. Okay, build your infrastructure. As the Kaduna state governor said, build your own power supply and attract your own investors, educate your children, and create your own jobs,” he said.

“As vice chair of KADIPA, I am proud to be associated with KADIPA and I’m proud to speak about Kaduna anywhere I go because even as a Nigerian, I do not want to bring anybody who will be embarrassed.

“If I see somebody who says he’s thinking of such, I would say come to Kaduna or come to Lagos or you could go somewhere where you have a story that you’re not going to regret.

“And I think every state needs to start to take that up because that is the only way we could give honour to the people. We can no longer rely on the centre.”
