Sanusi vs FG case adjourned, that’s emir’s privilege!

Following an application for adjournment by lawyers of Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the emir of Kano, and former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), a suit filed by Sanusi challenging the federal government over his suspension from the helm of CBN was stalled on Friday.

Mr Kola Awodehin, counsel to Sanusi, told the court that he needed time to consult his client based on his new status, leaving presiding judge, Justice Babatunde Adejuwon, with no option but to adjourn the case to July 4, since there were no opposition to the application.

Bar. Mike Ozekhome, counsel to the federal government, said all counsels in the suit agreed to allow the plaintiff’s counsel consult with his client before the next sitting.

Sanusi had fallen out of favour with the federal government after raising an alarm that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) did not remit $20 billion to the federation account.

Although his tenure was scheduled to end in June, he was suspended in February over allegations of financial recklessness.

Meanwhile, after presiding over the emirate from the government house in Kano, the new emir relocated to the palace on Friday.

After leading the first Friday prayer at the government house Juma’at mosque, Sanusi rode to the palace that has been under lock and key in the past few days.
