Sanwo-Olu: Blue rail line has transported over 75K people in 350 trips since Sept 4

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos, says the Blue rail line has transported over 75,000 people in over 350 trips since it started operations.

The Blue rail line  started operations on September 4 between Marina and Mile 2.

Abimbola Akinajo, the manager of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), had said passenger operations would start with 12 trips for two weeks and would increase to 76 trips per day.

In a post on his X page on Thursday, Sanwo-Olu said over 3.8 million Lagosians have collected the rail’s “Cowry cards”.

“Dear Lagosians, the Blueline rail system commenced its commercial service exactly 1 month ago,” the governor wrote.

“Today after over 350 trips, with zero incidents, we have moved over 75,000 people from their homes, to their schools, workplaces, businesses and back home to their families and loved ones.

“With over 3.8 million Cowry cards collected so far, we are proud to say a greater Lagos is indeed rising.

“Join us as we plan to increase the frequency of the trains and to move more people through our city in a safer, faster, efficient and more affordable way.”

On September 27, the governor inspected the Talgo trains stationed at the compound of the National Railway Corporation (NRC).

The trains are undergoing retrofitting and are planned to be used for the Red line rail that will run from Agbado area in Ogun state to Ebute Metta.

On the same day, Sanwo-Olu also visited the Agege station of the Red line rail and gave the traders two days to vacate the tracks.
