Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos state, says he has not spoken directly to President Muhammadu Buhari since the Lekki shooting happened.

Sanwo-Olu disclosed this while speaking in an interview with Arise TV on Thursday.

“I made phone calls to the president. I made calls to the president twice yesterday. The first time, he hadn’t come to the office and the second time, he was at the FEC meeting.

“So, indeed, I haven’t spoken to him directly but actually, I did call to want to speak with him. But like I said, he was at the FEC meeting.

“He was the one that asked the chief of defense staff to call me and I think it was when he got my message because when the chief of defense staff called me, he said to me that it was the president that asked him to call.

“So, I haven’t spoken to him directly maybe later today that will happen. I don’t have a report to say that this was what he said because we haven’t spoken.”

On Tuesday, men dressed in military uniform fired live bullets at unarmed #EndSARS protesters who gathered at the Lekki tollgate.

In an interview on Wednesday, Matthew Kukah, bishop of the Catholic diocese of Sokoto, said no Nigerian in the right frame of mind can find a reason why the president has remained so silent on the crisis.
