Sanwo-Olu: Lagos didn’t record any bank robbery in four years

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, says the state did not record any incident of bank robbery in four consecutive years.

Sanwo-Olu spoke on Tuesday during the 17th town hall meeting on security organised by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu attributed the zero bank robberies in the last four years to the improvement in the state security architecture.

The Lagos governor said the state government through LSSTF has consistently funded security agencies to ensure quick response to threats and crimes.

He added that by 2024, the government will donate an additional 300 patrol vehicles to security agencies in the state.

“We convene here today to discuss and evaluate the trajectory of our collective efforts to bolster security in Lagos,” Sanwo-Olu was quoted as saying in a statement by Gboyega Akosile, his chief press secretary.

“Our discussion centres around the convergence of security strategies, which is an integral component of our THEMES+ agenda.

“Our administration recognises security as a multifaceted challenge and we promise to continue to pursue policies and actions that will foster the well-being of all Lagosians, while we keep faith with our pledge to building a secure, and inclusive community.

“To address critical needs, the state government, in collaboration with local authorities, will provide 300 patrol vehicles through the LSSTF at the beginning of next year.

“We have repositioned the neighbourhood safety agency to gather actionable intelligence to support security responses.”

At the event, the governor initiated fundraising for LSSTF, and the sum of N2 billion was raised.
