Kemi Adeosun, minister of finance, has been mandated by Bukola Saraki, Nigeria’s senate president, to appear before the red chamber of the national assembly on Thursday, July 21.
Adeosun was expected at the senate on Wednesday, to apprise the chamber on the policies and strategies the federal government seeks to employ in cushioning the effects of the harsh economic climate of the country.
While the finance minister was a no-show at the senate, Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was available to brief the lawmakers on the state of Nigeria’s economy.
Commenting on Adeosun’s absence, Ali Ndume, senate leader, said she had sent a message notifying the senators of her inability to appear as scheduled, owing to the federal executive council meeting.

Reacting, Saraki echoed the standpoint of Godswill Akpabio, minority leader, who had earlier said Adeosun should have known there would be clash in her schedule when she agreed to show up.
“She picked today,” the senate president said.
“We must take her before we go tomorrow because the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, made effort to be here on Tuesday.
