Saudi Arabia felicitates with Nigeria on 64th independence anniversary

King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Mohammed bin Salman, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, have congratulated President Bola Tinubu on the occasion of Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary.

Salman and Mohammed, in a goodwill message on Tuesday, conveyed their best wishes for Tinubu’s continued good health and happiness.

The Saudi leaders also expressed hopes for the progress and prosperity for Nigeria and its citizens.

The independence anniversary in Nigeria was received with mixed reactions as many youths took to the streets in Ibadan, Lagos, and Abuja to protest the economic hardship.

In a nationwide address, Tinubu defended his economic policies, describing them as “necessary reforms”.

He appealed to Nigerians to exercise patients, saying economic policies take time to yield the desired results.

Tinubu acknowledged the high cost of living in the country, especially food prices and assured Nigerians that his government is implementing measures to address the issue.

Among the highlights of the president’s speech was his announcement of national youth conference “to address the diverse challenges and opportunities confronting our young people” and a directive to conduct integrity tests on all the nation’s dams in wake of the flooding in Maiduguri, Borno state capital.

“Fellow Nigerians, better days are ahead of us. The challenges of the moment must always make us believe in ourselves. We are Nigerians—resilient and tenacious. We always prevail and rise above our circumstances,” Tinubu said.

“I urge you to believe in our nation’s promise. The road ahead may be challenging, but we will forge a path toward a brighter future with your support. Together, we will cultivate a Nigeria that reflects the aspirations of all its citizens, a nation that resonates with pride, dignity, and shared success.”
