Saudi, Egypt ban Qatari airplanes from using airspace

Saudi Arabia and Egypt have banned Qatari airplanes from using their airspace.

This is coming after Qatar airways suspended its flights to Saudi Arabia.

On Monday, Six Arab countries cut diplomatic ties to Qatar on allegations that the country is supporting terrorism.

According to the BBC, Egypt announced that all flights from the country and Qatar would be halted at 04:00 GMT on Tuesday and would not “continue until further notice”.

Major Arab airlines such as Bahrain’s Gulf Air, UAE’s Etihad airways and Emirates airlines also announced that they would cancel flights to and from the Qatari capital, Doha starting from Tuesday morning.

According to the report, the suspension of flights may cause a problem for the Qatar national airline because it will be forced to alter flight paths and inevitably add time to some destinations.

It said Qatari citizens had began stockpiling food and water, as the country is heavily dependent on Saudi Arabia for its food imports.

But an official with Iran’s Union of Exporters of Agricultural Products reportedly said Tehran could export food to Qatar by sea within 12 hours.
