Jumia, a pan-African e-commerce platform, has asked the public to disregard reports that it is currently recruiting.

Jumia said this in a mail to customers on Tuesday.

The e-commerce giant said a message had been circulating on WhatsApp, an instant messaging platform, notifying users that the company was in search of part-time workers.

However, Jumia said the recruitment alert was “false and misleading”.

“Our attention has been drawn to a message being circulated specifically via WhatsApp, of a ‘hiring manager at Jumia’, inviting people to apply for part-time employment at Jumia,” the mail reads.

“We wish to state that this information is entirely false and misleading and should, therefore, be ignored by the public.

“We denounce our association from this message and any further messages which may be dispersed to the public of a similar nature.”

Jumia further emphasised that it is committed to transparency in the conduct of all its activities, including recruitment.

Members of the public were also advised to follow all their official online platforms and verified social media pages for communication and updates.
