The federal capital territory administration (FCTA) says scammers are creating fake social media accounts in the names of some of its staff with the intent to defraud residents.

In a statement on Thursday, Jumai Ahmadu, FCTA’s director of reform coordination and service improvement, said these fraudsters are using these accounts to lure unsuspecting members of the public into phantom contract deals.

Ahmadu said two LinkedIn accounts were opened using the names of staffers of the FCTA.

“One of such accounts was created in the name of the Permanent Secretary, Adesola Olusade,” NAN quoted her as saying.

“Another bore the name of the Executive Secretary, Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Shehu Ahmed.”

The director said neither the permanent secretary nor the executive secretary has a LinkedIn account.

She said the government had well established procurement and employment processes which are not publicised through social media, adding that security personnel are working to apprehend the perpetrators.
