The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says many members of the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) were killed in an air strike conducted in Marte LGA of Borno.

The operation was conducted by troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) on August 16.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, said the air strike hit the ISWAP medical dispensary at Arinna Soro.

Arianna Soro is situated along the fringes of Lake Chad and Borno state.

Intelligence sources told Makama that the damage assessment carried out in the area showed that several equipment of the terrorists were destroyed by the troops.

Many ISWAP fighters at the Tombun Baba Jedda area of Lake Chad were said to have been neutralised.

The ISWAP fighters reportedly withdrew their advance team from Filin A’Uzo and Dabar Wanzam during the operation, after suffering “significant casualties”.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the ISWAP fighters are covering up the magnitude of their losses to avoid an offensive from Jama’tu Ahlis Sunna (JAS), a rival group.
