Scores of fighters of the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) have been reportedly killed in military airstrikes.
According to Zagazola Makama, a publication focused on the Lake Chad region, makeshift tents used by the terrorists for hiding were also destroyed during the air raid.
The strikes were said to have been coordinated by troops of Operation Warun 3 on Sunday in Marte LGA of Borno.
Sources in the military told Zagazola Makama that the attack was part of efforts by the military to eradicate Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists from the north-east.
“This successful offensive is part of OPERATION WARUN 3, an ongoing campaign aimed at eradicating Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists from the north-east,” a source was quoted as saying by the publication.
“The Nigerian military’s ongoing efforts to dismantle ISWAP and restore peace in the region have been met with praise and support from the international community.
“As the OPERATION WARUN 3 campaign continues, the Nigerian military remains committed to securing the nation and protecting its citizens from the ongoing threat of terrorism.
“The successful airstrikes near Lake Chad demonstrate the military’s resolve and capabilities, reinforcing their position as a formidable force against terrorist organisations.”
The development comes days after scores of ISWAP fighters were killed by military airstrikes in Abadem LGA of Borno.
A factory used by the terrorists to make vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIED) was also destroyed in the air raid.
