SDP presidential candidate: LP not third force — their supporters have been hoodwinked

Adewole Adebayo, presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), says the supporters of the Labour Party (LP) have been “hoodwinked”.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, on Tuesday, Adebayo said the candidates of LP are using the same method the All Progressives Congress (APC) used in the build-up to the 2015 general election.

The SDP presidential candidate said Nigerians are the third force, not LP whose presidential candidate is Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra state.

“There is a politics of the establishment, unfortunately, the Labour brand [is], they are my friends and I’m heartbroken. But these gentlemen and ladies who have worked hard over the years in the labour movement have finally been hoodwinked. Time will tell,” he said.

“That’s the reason why they are spending their time, source of income.

“But the third force is the people of Nigeria, those who have not been in government before, who don’t have a track record of what we are complaining about. Let me tell you how I know the establishment.

“If the things we are complaining about in the country and the dilemma we are trying to resolve originated from your past practices, I will categorise you as part of the problem.

“There is a place in the heart of sinners of those that repent but God himself cannot help hypocrites — people who are part of the problem mouthing the problem as if they are not part of it. The same with APC, with all the oil money stolen.

“They came together and agreed that people don’t like corruption, let’s come out and run on the mantra of corruption, they themselves were more corrupt than the people they were talking about, since it was a popular subject they are running on, so it is the same thing.”

Adebayo said as one of the leaders of the “third force”, it is his duty to tell Nigerians to study the background and character of any candidate.
