Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun state

Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun state, has asked the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 16 LGA election to pursue victory for the party.

Abiodun spoke during a meeting with the party’s 20 LGA chairmen, on Friday, as well as its 20 chairmanship, 20 vice-chairmanship, and 236 councillorship candidates.

He called for unity and harmony among members of the party.

He said the APC holds a “strong position” going into the election, while stating that the party has fulfilled its promises and is poised to secure a decisive win.

“I want to be sure that you have met with other contestants and reconciled with them in the spirit of appreciation and reconciliation,” Abiodun said.

“It is important that we don’t leave any room for bickering, animosity, or for anyone to go into this election in any local government and attempt to polarise the party along the lines of those who didn’t emerge.

“It is important that we ensure that there is perfect harmony in each local government.”

Abiodun said the candidates’ selection process was “meticulous and intentional”, adding that none were chosen by accident.

He emphasised on the importance of elections in grassroots development and urged candidates to embrace the ‘ISEYA’ mantra.

“There is none of you that has emerged by accident because in the election of the local government, I will not allow us to place the local government in the hands of anyone who will be an accidental council chairman,” he added.

“It is important that we have some sort of uniformity in our campaigns so that the campaigns in Ijebu-North, Abeokuta-South, Ipokia, and Ado-Odo-Ota are very similar,” he said.

“Very soon, we will begin the groundbreaking of our deep-sea port in Ogun Waterside, the naval base, and dockyard in Ogun Waterside.”

Abiodun said his administration has distributed development projects fairly while citing 700 kilometres of road construction and more than 4,000 housing units built across the state.

He also noted rehabilitations completed on over 120 primary health centres and 1,000 classrooms.

Addressing the current economic challenges, Abiodun expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s policies, noting that the benefits would emerge over time.

He said the state government is providing relief through measures such as selling rice to public servants and pensioners at a discounted price of N40,000.

On his part, Yemi Sanusi, the party chairman in the state, urged candidates to strengthen the party’s presence through diligent campaigning to secure victory in the elections.
