Security operatives raid terrorists hideouts in Kogi, Nasarawa, recover weapons

A joint security team has arrested one Abubakar Muhammad, a suspected gunrunner, along the Abuja-Keffi expressway in Keffi LGA, Nasarawa state.

The joint security team was made up of operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and the Nigerian Army.

In a statement on Thursday, Peter Afunanya, the agency’s spokesperson, said the operatives recovered 486 rounds of 7.62 x39mm calibre ammunition, 22 primed IEDs, the sum of N31,500, and one Volkswagen Golf vehicle.

The operatives also raided the hideout of Kabir Bala, a notorious gang leader, in Ejule, Ofu LGA of Kogi state.

Afunanya added that the gang leader was killed during a gun duel with security operatives.

“In another joint operation in the early hours of today, 22nd June, 2023, a team raided the hideout of Kabir Bala (aka Okwo), one time jailbreaker and notorious gang leader in Ejule, Ofu LGA of Kogi state,” the statement reads.

“Okwo and his gang members engaged the troops in a gun duel during which he was neutralised. Others, however, fled the area.

“Items recovered at the scene were one AK47 rifle with three (3) fully loaded magazines, six (6) locally fabricated weapons, two (2) phones and charms.”
