Security operatives uncover ‘30 graves, shrine’ in Anambra hotel

Security operatives in Anambra state have uncovered “over 30 graves and a shrine” at a hotel in Oba, Idemili south LGA of the state.

Security operatives reportedly discovered the graves at the weekend after receiving a report from a resident in the area.

The property, located along the Onitsha-Owerri road, was registered as Udoka Golden Point Hotel and Suites, but is widely known as La Cruise Hotel.

A post on the Anambra state government handle on X said the “hotel has well-partitioned graves of over 30 on the last floor with a shrine”.

Onyeka Ibezim, deputy governor in Anambra state, led security operatives to demolish the building on Saturday.

Addressing journalists after the exercise, Ibezim said there is no room for criminality in the south-east state.

“The state has zero tolerance for all sorts of criminality. Our people must go on with their businesses,” he said.

Videos showing the graves and the demolition of the hotel have since gone viral on social media.

In November 2023, a committee constituted by Chukwuma Soludo, the state governor, to help address the secessionist agitations, insecurity and other challenges in the state, discovered a mass grave site in the state.
