Mas’ud Aliyu, director-general (DG) of the Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), says three people were killed by the flood that ravaged some communities in three LGAs.

Speaking on Tuesday during an assessment visit to the affected communities in Shira LGA, Aliyu said many residents have been rendered homeless.

He said the state government has provided relief items to alleviate the suffering caused by the flood.

“In Shira local government area, three people have lost their lives,” the SEMA DG said.

“The three local government areas of Shira, Katagum, and Giade are not the only ones affected. Many other local government areas are also impacted.”

Meanwhile, Ibrahim Kashim, secretary to the state government (SSG), also led a delegation to the affected communities on Tuesday.

Receiving the government delegation, Musa Azare, caretaker chairman of Katagum LGA, said many residents have been forced to seek refuge in temporary settlements as a result of the flooding.

“The flood has washed away entire villages, forcing us to seek temporary refugee resettlement centres,” Azare said.

Recently, a flood cut off the Kano-Maiduguri expressway in Bauchi state, as well as the Azare-Isawa road.
