Senate confirms Abike Dabiri-Erewa as head of diaspora commission

The senate has confirmed the appointment of Abike Dabiri-Erewa as the chairperson/chief executive officer of Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NDC).

Dabiri-Erewa’s confirmation was announced after Rose Oko, the chairperson of the senate committee on diaspora and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), presented the report of the committee on Thursday.

News of her confirmation was also shared via the verified Twitter account of the Nigerian senate.

“The Senate has confirmed the Nomination of Abike Dabiri-Erewa for Appointment as Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Diaspora Commision,” it wrote.

In his remarks, Bukola Saraki, senate president, described Dabiri-Erewa’s nomination as one that was fully merited.

“On behalf of the Eighth Senate, let me congratulate Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa on this appointment, which is well deserved,” Saraki said.

“We wish her a successful tenure and hope she will be a great Ambassador for the country.”

The senate president also commended the committee for its effort in ensuring that the process of the confirmation was concluded on time.

Dabiri-Erewa, the senior special adviser to the president on foreign affairs and diaspora, was a three-term member of the house of representatives representing Ikorodu federal constituency in Lagos between 2003 and 2015.

During her time as a rep member, she chaired the house committee on diaspora affairs. She also sponsored the bill seeking the establishment of the NDC.
