The senate has confirmed the appointment of Abaze Abubakar Musa as the president of the FCT customary court of appeal.
President Muhammadu Buhari had asked the senators to confirm the nominee in a letter read by Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president, on the floor of the upper legislative chamber on Thursday.
Buhari based his request on section 266 (4) of the constitution.
“Pursuant to section 266 (4) of the 1999 constitution as amended and upon the advice of the National Judicial Council, I hereby present for confirmation, by the senate, the appointment of Justice Abaze Abubakar Musa Sadiq, as the president Customary Court of Appeal, FCT Abuja,” the president said.

“While hoping that this appointment will be expeditiously considered and confirmed by the distinguish Senate, please accept Mr Senate President the assurances of my highest consideration.”
After the letter was read, the senate dissolved into the committee of the whole and invited Musa into the chamber for screening after Ahmed Lawan, majority leader, moved a motion.
“I therefore move that we suspend all the process that ordinarily it should have gone through with a view to meeting this national interest by confirming the nominee in the committee of the whole,” Lawan said.

Musa was asked to “take a bow” after he briefed the lawmakers about his qualifications.
The judge was confirmed after his nomination was put to a voice vote by Ekweremadu.
The process took about 20 minutes.
