Nwakuche Ndidi
The Senate has confirmed the nomination of Sylvester Nwakuche as the comptroller-general (CG) of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
The approval followed the presentation of a report by the senate committee on interior, chaired by Adams Oshiomhole, senator for Edo north, who moved the motion for Nwakuche’s confirmation at Tuesday’s plenary.
Titus Zam, senator representing Benue north-west, seconded the motion.
Presenting the committee’s findings, Oshimohole said the nominee was “thoroughly” screened on March 12.

“The committee found the nominee as one with an impeccable character, full of exposure, experience, intellect, energy, drive and worthy of the nomination,” Oshiomhole said.
“The man is not only qualified in terms of academic qualification, he has been involved in several command positions and has benefitted from training and retraining.
“The committee found the nominee suitable for the position of controller-general. No petition or incriminating report was received against the nominee”.

With no opposition from any lawmaker, Senate President Godswill Akpabio put the motion to a voice vote, which received a unanimous approval.
Akpabio expressed hope that the senate’s confirmation would motivate him to serve Nigeria with renewed dedication.
“I hope that this confirmation by the Senate will spur him to continue to do his best in service of our fatherland,” Akpabio said.
“He is coming at a difficult time when we have jail breaks here and there. So, to whom much is given, much is expected”.
